Troy Gentry Of ‘Montgomery Gentry’ Band Dies In Helicopter Crash

MEDFORD,NJ – The band ‘Montgomery Gentry’ suffered terrible tragedy Friday September 8th when the helicopter carrying county music star Troy Gentry crashed causing his death. Gentry was 50 years old.

According to KPRC 2 News the crash occurred at 1 P.M. Friday and two persons were killed, including Troy Gentry. Troy was one of two in the very popular country music duo,”Montgomery Gentry.” Eddie Montgomery was not on board the helicopter.

The Montgomery Gentry concert was scheduled to be in Medford, New Jersey at the Flying W Airport & Resort, but it was canceled after the crash.

Montgomery Gentry Twitter page put out a statement that read:

“It is with great sadness that we confirm that Troy Gentry, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash which took place at approximately 1:00pm today in Medford, New Jersey. The duo was scheduled to perform tonight at the Flying W Airport & Resort in Medford. Troy Gentry was 50 years old. Details of the crash are unknown. Troy Gentry’s family wishes to acknowledge all the kind thoughts and prayers, and asks for privacy at this time.”

Montgomery Gentry is well know for several songs including, ‘My Town,’ ‘Speed,’ and ‘Something To Be Proud Of.’ The band’s sound is defined by Southern rock influences.

Troy Gentry is native of Kentucky and paired up with Eddie Montgomery in 1999 forming the band “Montgomery Gentry.” The duo collaborated with county music stars Toby Keith, Charlie Daniels and others. In 2000 Montgomery Gentry won three Academy of County Music awards, “Favorite New Artist-Country,” “Top New Vocal Duo or Group,” and “Vocal Duo of the Year.”

Gentry was married to Angie McClure and in 2002 they had a daughter together named Kaylee. Gentry also has a daughter from a previous marriage named Taylor.
